Art is so important to the state of New Hampshire that in 1979, the state legislature enacted the Percent for Art Program, which mandates that ½ to 1 percent of the contract price of state construction projects be appropriated for the inclusion of art and/or craft work in the architecture of the building.
Artists need not fear about career opportunities in other areas, however. The job market is growing, especially for fashion designers, who can expect an increase of 44.1% in opportunities through 2012. Graphic and interior designers also will see a terrific rise of 28 and 27%, respectively. In fact, nearly every art industry sector was predicted to grow significantly during this time period, good news for any aspiring art major headed to New Hampshire.
