Indianapolis is the country’s 12th-largest city and is often referred to as the Crossroads of America for its Midwestern location. The city just recently invested $500 million into cultural attractions, proving its commitment to the arts, including expanding the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art, the opening of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the ArtsPark at the Indianapolis Art Center. The Arts Council of Indianapolis supports thousands of local artists and organizations and is committed to making art more accessible to people through dozens of free exhibits and performances throughout the year. The Arts Council reports that arts in the city generate more than $294 million into the economy and account for more than 10,400 jobs. Students of the arts have a number of educational options, including four-year institutions such as the University of Indianapolis and Indiana University, as well as private, career-oriented schools, such as the Art Institute and the Indianapolis Art Center. Outside of the classroom, students will enjoy visiting White River State Park, Monument Circle, and the Indian Market. Music lovers might opt to take in one of 200 annual concerts by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Other options include shows by the Indiana Repertory Theater and races at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
