About: The National Art School is the oldest, most prestigious and specialist visual arts school in Australia. Founded in 1833, the NAS has carved a reputation for excellence in fine arts education both in Australia and internationally. More than 500 students come through the studios of NAS each week, participating in a range of programs from the 3 year full time Bachelor of Fine Art, Honours (by coursework) and Master of Fine Art (by research) to 1 week studio intensives. With drawing, art history and theory as core subjects, the three year undergraduate courses and emphasis on relevance to contemporary culture, the NAS equips students from all over the world to make sense of global and cultural change and its implication for art and art making. The NAS adopts the Atelier model of instruction, focusing on studio-based teaching and mentoring which is why there is such rigour in the interview and selection process. About: SCU is situated in the beautiful sub-tropical coastal region of northern NSW, adjacent to the surfing mecca of Byron Bay. Graduate (Masters and PhD) and undergraduate courses are offered in the major studios of Ceramics, Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking. Applications from international students are encouraged. Facilities include woodfired, gas, and electric kilns, a foundry area, a well-equipped toolroom, papermaking facilities, an encaustic workstation, metal and wood construction areas, photography darkrooms, a computer graphics lab and equipment for basic kiln-worked glass.
